In the summer of 2014, the West Broad Street YMCA (the Y) of Savannah, Georgia was awarded a $70,000 grant by the Comcast Foundation to be used towards technology advancements in programming. When Dominic was contacted by the Y, the season had already changed from summer to autumn, and the fall school semester was quickly approaching its end.
Understanding that the Y was operating on limited resources -- and that the program needed to improve teen participation while sustaining membership -- Dominic proposed the technology club. After 2 weeks of researching alternative teen recreational program initiatives and studying the Y's (then) current operations and membership, Dominic created a proposal and project charter.
Included in Dominic's original proposal to the Y director, there were listed resources available to the Y, a cost-benefit analysis, a project timeline, and program syllabus. After having the program approved, volunteering as the club instructor, the program's launch and inaugural operation was successful with increasing teen member participation and attracting new teen members to the West Broad Street YCMA.
